Anthony Brockington

In Loving Memory Celebrating the Life of 

Anthony Brockington, Sr. Anthony Brockington, Sr., was born on December 8th, 1949, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was blessed to be the oldest son of the late Peter Brockington and Ariethia Brown Brockington. Anthony had two brothers and two sisters. Cynthia, Herneitha, Crisello and Angelo. Herneitha and Crisello preceded Anthony in death. 

The Lord came and gave Anthony his eternal reward on May 7, 2025. 

A Life Well Lived 

Anthony was naturally talented... HE WAS A CHILD PRODIGY. Anthony accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. He attended New Daniel's Baptist Church, Greater Saint Luke Church and Devereux United Methodist Church for many years. He later joined Faith Temple C.O.G.I.C. under the leadership of the great Bishop Samuel P. Fulton. There he was the musical director and a faithful member for over 30 years. At a very early age his father, Peter Brockington taught Anthony how to play the piano. Subsequently, he taught himself how to read music, play the keyboards and the organ. He could make the Hammond organ sing like no other. He was passionately known as "Brock" "Tony" and "The Maestro" by many who knew and loved him. From the early days growing up in Philadelphia, he was adventurous, and he had a one-of-a-kind personality. "OH YES". 

Education and Career 

Anthony pursued his education in The Philadelphia Public School System. He graduated from Murrell Dobbins Vocational High School in 1967. Upon graduation he worked several odd jobs until being hired by The United States Government at 401 North Board Street. He continued to work for the government for several years until his music career took precedence. He was a full-time musician as an organist, pianist, choir director and recording artist.

 Family and Friends 

Music and family were the cornerstone of Anthony's life. While creating a choir at Greater Saint Luke Church, he met and fell in love with his childhood sweetheart Alfreda Burris. Anthony and Freda were a perfect team. Freda sang and Anthony played the piano. They recorded several songs out of love and compassion. After dating, they married and became one on May 22, 1965. From their union 4 children were born. (Trudy, Anthony, Jr., Antionette, and Adrianne). Anthony's 2nd . Marriage was to Joyce Nicks on May 19,2001. They were a happy couple until her passing on January 28, 2024.

Anthony leaves to cherish his memory: Four children: Trudy, Anthony Jr., Antionette, and Adrianne. His grandchildren Gia, Anton, Ettienne, Joseph and his great grandson, Gabriel. One brother: Angelo Brockington; one sister Cynthia Wilson. Two brothers-in-laws; Herbert Wilson and Steven Brown. A host of nieces, nephews, his stepchildren, several cousins, and a host of family members and friends who deeply loved him. The love they shared was a testament to the strong bonds and unyielding support that characterized Anthony's family life.

Passions and Hobbies 

Outside of professional and family commitments, Anthony had many interests and hobbies. He enjoyed organizing new choirs, cooking gourmet meals, playing pool and cards, creating new songs and listening to music by Herbie Hancock. Anthony played for many well-known organizations and choirs throughout the Tri State Area and beyond. His passions included working as a musician for "The Sounds of Philadelphia with "Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff." Anthony wrote and recorded, "We Come to Praise His Name" in 1978 with the "Voices of Fellowship); On this recording you can hear him playing the piano and organ. He also recorded with "The Famous Dixie Humming Birds". He played for The Brockington Ensemble, "The Family Reunion" and many other churches and choirs in the city of Philadelphia. He was a mentor and teacher for his children and favorite brother, Angelo. He taught his children how to play the piano and how to sing together in 4-part harmony. Anthony and Angelo loved jazz and created a music style that they named" Gazz". This music style was a blend of Gospel and Jazz. They also created a band named 'The Bee's Wax Band." Angelo and Anthony made a recording named "Live in Peace". This is an inspirational song about people living in peace and harmony. They immersed themselves in activities that brought joy and fulfillment. Their passion for music was well known among friends and family.

Legacy and Impact 

Anthony's legacy is one of love for God, family, his church family, and unwavering dedication to his many musical contributions to the World. His impact on the lives of those he encountered will forever be remembered. 

A Final Farewell 

As we say farewell to Anthony... Brock., Tony... The Maestro...Grand Pop and Pop Pop we take comfort in knowing that the love and the music that he gave us will be cherished and live on in our hearts forever...
