Bessie Morgan Obituary

Bessie Lee Morgan was born on August 4, 1948 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Bessie Mae and John Lewis Thompson. In her early years, she was educated in the Philadelphia public school system. In her teens, she met Jimmie Morgan, whom she fell in love with. Bessie and Jimmie joined together and were married in February of 1965. They went on to have six children. Bessie was a child of God that gave her life to Christ at an early age. She later joined St. John Memorial Baptist Church under Pastor Roy Houston. Bessie worked factory jobs, and then earned a certificate in dietary nutrition. She used that certification to do work in the same Philadelphia public school system that educated her.

Bessie loved children and she won the hearts of so many of those that she helped. She was a fun-loving person who liked celebrating and dancing. Bessie loved to cook and entertain. She was known for her special occasion parties and feasts. She enjoyed eating ribs, ham, potato salad, and chicken wing platters with shrimp fried rice. Bessie loved all kinds of music. She especially loved oldies, R&B, and quartet gospel like that of Lee Williams & The Spiritual QCs and The Williams Brothers Senior of Philadelphia. Her favorite songs were “I’ve Learned to Lean” and “Free.” Bessie’s favorite color was yellow.

Preceding Bessie in glory are her parents (John Lewis Thompson, Bessie Mae Thompson), her siblings (Ruth, Mattie, Robert, Perry), and her daughter (Lea). To cherish her memory, Bessie leaves her husband (Jimmie Morgan, Sr.), her children (Brian, Jimmie Jr., Jules, Kenyon Sr., Ayesha), her grandchildren (Ikia, Quintinn, Laraya, Larbriah, Quineah, Tiana, Julmeen, Saladin, Jaheed, Diwud, Kenyon Jr., Jamir, Ronjanae, Keigan, Kiera, Kenadii, Ian, Nikaya, Kenadie, Knixon), great-grandchildren (Jamaya, Daneria, Ciyahni, Alijah, Zachary, Nazuri, Mykie’yel, Andreas, A’aliyahna), her siblings (Julius, Harry, Leonard Sr., James, John, Mary, Robbie, Ruby), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and loved ones.
