Charon M. Carr

Charon Michelle Carr was born October 13, 1975, in Philadelphia, PA to James Michael Carr, and the late Carolyn Ann Moore.

In 1983 her family relocated to Hinesville GA, where she was educated in the Bryan County and Liberty County School systems.  She graduated from Bradwell Institute in 1993. And in 1994 she embarked on the next chapter of her life with her son Javon, they moved back to Philadelphia to further her education. In 1998 Charon received her associate degree at the Community College of Philadelphia. This degree started her path in life as a social worker. Her first career opportunity was with JFK Behavioral Health. Shortly thereafter she saw the need to further her education in her field and she went on to earn her bachelor’s degree at Chestnut Hill College. She then expanded her career path by joining Girls Inc. of Philadelphia where she also worked as a social worker and court-appointed advocate on behalf of her underage clients. Where she worked until she became disabled.

Early in her twenties, Charon gave her life to the Lord and later she regularly attended Lovely Baptist Church until she could no longer attend services. Sadly, our Charon departed this life, on April 25, 2024, in Philadelphia, PA. Though her many challenges started at such a young age and her battle was hard, she never gave up and fought with bravery.

She was preceded in death by her loving mother: Carolyn Ann Moore; Grandparents: Wilma Carr, Harvey Jack Scott, and Bishop James Finney; Her Brother: Claude Leo Moore, JR; Uncle: Chauncy Scott

Charon leaves to cherish her memory, her Fathers: James Michael Carr of Philadelphia, PA, and Claude Leo Moore, SR of Hinesville, GA. Her Son: Javon L. Carr, Grandson: Cameron P. Carr of Philadelphia, PA.

Her Grandmother: Pastor Arneta P. Finney of Sicklerville, NJ.

Her Sisters: Davida (Julius) Scriven of Richmond Hill, GA; Kirsten (April) Jones of Philadelphia, PA; Tina (Mike) Gomez of Yulee, FL

Her Brothers: Jared Moore of Hinesville, GA; and Michael Carr of Philadelphia, PA.

And a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Her lifelong friend and bestie, Brandie James; Bonus Mom: Mrs. Vanessa Moore, and special cousin, Mary “Aunt Ann” Norris, all will cherish her memory.

Charon’s touch on her family could be seen in her nicknames: She was lovingly known as “Aunt Ron” to her nieces and nephews.  “Cha-Ron-Ne-Mo” her uncle and aunts playfully called her. Her grandmother called her “Nancy”. Her Aunt Deannie called her “Miss Priss”. Her big sis called her “CC”. But what stood out most was when her mother would call her “Ms. Carr” which usually meant “Alright now you doing too much” and Charon would giggle knowing her mom was right. 

Charon was compassionate, fun-spirited, and loved a good gag gift. Her laughter was loud and contagious as the dimple on her forehead was visible. In her youth, she easily learned all the modern dances and didn’t mind showing her moves off. She was very light-hearted, yet a firecracker. Early in her twenties, she was diagnosed with an illness that would change her life drastically.  She braved the journey and fought her battle, focusing on raising her son. Although physically she was limited, she used her voice to remind her loved ones, especially her nieces and nephews, to pursue their education and career goals. Her greatest joy was when she became a grandmother.
