Darlene Ella Jones departed this world on October 14, 2021, at the age of 63. Darlene was born to the late Hinton and Florence Jones in Philadelphia, PA on January 19, 1958. Darlene was known as “Mommie”, “Dee”, “Momma Dee”, “Sweet Pea”, and “Mom Mom”.
Darlene attended the Philadelphia Public School System where she received her high school diploma.
Darlene accepted Christ at Love Zion Baptist Church.
She married Reginald Brown Sr. on July 11, 1989. They choose that date for “good luck.”
Darlene wore many hats. She worked as a teacher’s aide at William Kelley and Alexander Wilson Elementary Schools. Darlene then took a trade at Gordon Phillips. She found her passion in cooking. She earned her SERVSafe certification in culinary class. She was a chef at the Crowne Plaza, the best chef!
Darlene was known for her big smile, but most of all her great cooking. “Momma Dee” could whip up a meal with whatever ingredients you had in your kitchen. She will be forever remembered for her cinnamon pancakes, lima beans, potato salad, salmon salad, and her famous oyster fried rice.
Darlene was a great mom but an even better grandmother or “Mom Mom” as she loved to be called. She’d often volunteer at her grandchildren schools. She did not know the word “NO” when it came to her grands.
Darlene is survived by her husband Reginald Sr., her children Damon, Nikki, Brooke, Reginald Jr., and Nisa, her stepchildren Adrien and Nafis, her grandchildren Breyanna, Nuderah, Amirah, Amiyr and Cihaaj (preceded in death), Cihiyia, Amaya, Khloe, Ma’Isah, Zayd, Imari, Imani, Ma’Hari, and Kai, great grandchildren Nylah and Braylen, her siblings Ella (preceded in death), Deborah, Rodney, Reginald, Howard and Randy, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Poem:
Mom you never said you were leaving, you never said goodbye.
You were gone before I knew it and I ask why.
The moment you died my heart was broken into two.
One side filled with relief that you left peacefully, but the other side died with you.
Mom I needed you, but I see Heaven needed you more.
So many memories of us from Queen Lane, Rittenhouse, all the way to now will always play in my mind.
And I’ll always remember that Great Big Smile.
It will be easy for me to think about you every day, but the pain I feel from losing you will never go away.
So be my Angel and stay by my side.
A mother and daughter love will never die.
Until we meet again.
