Deacon James Edward Snead

James Edward Snead, son of the late Lawerence and Eleanor Snead, born July 7, 1938, in Irwin County, Georgia. After a long fight with his illness, the Lord called him home and he departed this life on Tuesday, January 27, 2026.

Deacon James E. Snead was educated in Irwin County, Georgia where he ran track and played basketball. He graduated salutatorian from Ocilla High School and gave the commencement speech. Deacon James E. Snead enjoyed talking about his hometown and would attend Ocilla Day where he would reconnect with classmates.

Deacon James E. Snead was always a hard-working man. As a young man, he travelled from his hometown to Connecticut, Miami and Atlantic City for work. On one of his trips to Atlantic City, he stopped in Philadelphia to visit his only sister, the late Mary Williams, where he claimed the love of his life, who he went to school with in Irwin County, Georgia. Deacon Snead was preparing to attend Morehouse College, but those plans changed quickly. On July 19, 1958, Deacon James E. Snead and Gaynell Williams were united in Holy Matrimony. From this union, they had three children: Perrette D’Andrea, Zina Yvette, and James Frederick.

Deacon James E. Snead accepted the Lord Jesus Christ and joined Rehoboth Church in 1958 under the leadership of the late Bishop Geroge A. Williams. Deacon James E. Snead was a math prodigy and anointed with the gift of financial management. He served as the Chief Financial Administrator of the church until his health started failing. He was a member of the men’s board, and the president of the Young People Willing Workers (YPWW). Deacon James E. Snead was a faithful member and was very compassionate about the finances and the upkeep of God’s house. He would get very excited on Men’s Day and business meetings as he would announce the financial reports. Deacon Snead would have the biggest smile because of his love for the Lord. Deacon James E. Snead would light up any room he entered. He was a great man of integrity and known to be a very laid back “cool” man that loved talking about the goodness of God, and his hometown of Georgia with his family and friends. Deacon James E. Snead was also known for his fast driving; in addition, he taught family members how to drive and escorted them to their driving examinations.

For several years, Deacon Snead was employed at L3 Communications, where he was known for his hard work and commitment. His dedication to his profession earned him respect and admiration from colleagues and friends. He played an instrumental role in the lives of JR Reid and Lenny Rodgers at L3 Communications, providing guidance, wisdom, and support. His influence extended beyond the workplace into the community of

Rehoboth Temple Church, where he mentored several young men, including Minister LaMarcus Smith, his successor. Through his nurturing spirit and steadfast faith, Deacon Snead helped shape the lives of those around him, leaving a legacy of mentorship and kindness.

Deacon Snead found great joy in spending time with his family, especially during their vacations. Virginia Beach and the Poconos were a few destinations, filled with laughter and togetherness. Among their most treasured memories are trips to Hawaii and Cancun, Mexico. These vacations were more than just getaways; they were opportunities for Deacon Snead to shower his loved ones with affection and create unforgettable moments.

Together with his wife Gaynell, Deacon Snead inspired countless young couples within both the church and the broader community. Their partnership was a model of love, loyalty, and faith, offering guidance to those seeking to strengthen their own relationships. The Sneads' commitment to each other and to their community touched many lives, leaving an indelible mark that will be remembered for generations.

Deacon James E. Snead was preceded in death by his parents Lawrence and Eleanor Snead, one sister Mary B. Williams and one brother Lawrence Snead and one great-grandson Jahmir Mapp.

Deacon James E. Snead leaves a legacy to cherish his memories: his devoted wife of sixty seven years, Evangelist Gaynell Snead, three children; Perrette D. Holloway (Timothy), Zina Yvette Snead, James Frederick Snead (Maria); six grandchildren, D’Andrea Bibbs (Dante), Antionette Williams, Anthony James Williams, James Jahmir Snead, LeBron J. Snead, and Elijah-Julius Snead; eleven great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren, one brother-in-law Deacon Floyd Williams, one sister-in-law Mother Sherly Williams, one God daughter Evangelist Gwen Ingram, four God sons; Michael Stove, Timothy Williams, Darin Washington, and Gary Camp, and host of nieces, nephews, other relative and friends.
