Deacon Nigel G. Chance

Nigel Geoffrey Chance was born on December 30, 1967, in Westminster, London England to the late Yvonne Samuels and Lennard Chance. Nigel was granted his eternal rest on Wednesday, February 7, 2024. After a lengthy battle with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. He was the eldest of five children.

When Nigel was just six months old, he returned home to Trinidad and Tobago with his mother and father. As a child, he was a calm, no fuss kind of kid who never gave any problems. As he grew into his school years, he attended Rosary Boys Catholic School. Nigel passed the Common Entrance Exam at Eleven years old and attended Belmont Boys Jr. High School.  Nigel finished his last two years of school at Barataria Comprehensive School.

Nigel carried that calm, no fuss attitude into adulthood. On July 2, 1995, Nigel was married to his best friend and love of six years, Karen Frederick. The two met and fell in love in Trinidad. Shortly after becoming espoused together, they parented three daughters, Jolicia, Shanaka, and Makayla. In 2004, Nigel joined the Open Heart Church of Philadelphia and gave his life to the Lord. He was a faithful member from that day forward and became a Deacon. Nigel later became a widower in March 2008.

Later in life, Nigel would meet Shonda Salley whom he would fall in love with. While working together at Woods Services, Nigel and Shonda united in  marriage on May 30, 2009, where he would become the stepfather of two children, Damon, and Alayjia, whom he loved very much. Shortly after being married, Nigel and Shonda welcomed their baby girl, Najiyah. In 2016, Nigel was able to reconnect with his biological father, Patrick, and his three siblings.

During that time, Nigel worked as a Walmart Associate for over ten years. Nigel loved his job, but he loved the people he worked with more. He would enjoy fishing trips with his friends he met while working there. Years later, Nigel and Shonda were divorced, but they both would remain remarkably close and loved each other very much and worked together to support their children.

Nigel was a wonderful father and grandfather to all his children and took great pride in everything he did in life. He was a man of few words, but if he loved you, you knew it. He loved spending time with his grandchildren Samyah. Peyton, Khloe, Ava, Italia and his only grandson, Kaden.

Nigel was preceded in death by his mother, Yvonne Samuels,  his wife, Karen Frederick Chance and his father Lennard Chance.

Nigel leaves behind to cherish his memories: his children; Jolicia (Daniel), Shanaka, Makayla, Damon, Alayjia, and Najiyah.  His grandchildren; Samayah, Peyton, Khloe, Ava, Italia, and Kaden. His father, Patrik Andre; his siblings: Lee Chance (Jolanda), Lisa Gambino (Mitchell), Dale Chance, Shaun Samuels, Nigel Andre, Tracey Andre, and Anthony Andre.
