Doris Lomax Obituary

“We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be

present with the Lord. ” – II Corinthians 5:8

On Saturday, February 24, 2024, DORIS JUANITA LOMAX, surrounded by family, quietly entered the Lord’s presence.

DORIS JUANITA GILES was born on December 30, 1932, in Philadelphia, PA. She was the ninth child of Hattie May Austin Giles and Weldon Giles. Doris’ nickname all her life was “Neet.” Doris had seven brothers and five sisters; she was the last living sibling.

Doris attended Philadelphia Public Schools and was an honor student throughout her school years. She graduated from Bok Vocational High School, where she majored in the Dressmaking and Sewing Curriculum. After graduating from High School, she worked for a time in sewing factories throughout Philadelphia. Later, she worked as a Dressmaking Seamstress to a private designer in Center City, Philadelphia. In her private life, she made custom drapes, coats, and other intricate sewing designs.

Doris’ steadfast testimony was that she was saved and filled with the Holy Ghost when she was twelve years old. From that time, she was a faithful, loving, and spirit-filled servant of God. She was a life-long member of Mt. Zion Pentecostal Church in South Philadelphia.

As a teenager, Doris met the love of her life, Fred Bowen Lomax, who lived around the corner from her house. They were married on December 15, 1951. Their union lasted until his death in 1990. The marriage was blessed with two children, Anita Linda, and Brian Fred. Doris worked side-by-side with her husband, Elder Fred B. Lomax in ministry.

In later years, prior to retirement, Doris became a Transit Health Driver for Wheels, Inc. She loved her job and enjoyed interacting with the patients whom she transported to medical appointments within the city.

Doris found joy in being a loving Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, and Great, Great-Grandmother. Her face lit up when talking to her offspring or about them!

Doris leaves to cherish her memory, two children: Anita Linda Moorer (Willie), Brian Fred Lomax, Sr. (Veronica Menyweather), five grandchildren, Allison Christina Ellis, Bradley Clayton Moorer, Sr. (Tamika), Christine Anita Lomax, Brian Fred Lomax, Jr. WIarkisha), Gilbert Kinsey-Lomax, eight greatgrandchildren, Amber Sharmaine Moorer, Alexander Bowen Moorer, Alycia Ronice Ellis, Amira Anita Ellis, Aaron Clayton Ellis, Bradley Clayton Moorer, Jr., Brea Linda Moorer, Alonzo Brian-Cyrus, and five great, greatgrandchildren, Bysil Aaron Collins, Amir-Nasir Clayton Ellis, Arman-Ahsad Clayton Ellis, Zara Cleopatra Marks, and Aiya Amarie Keepler. Doris also leaves many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, and friends. Last, but not least, Doris leaves her beloved Goddaughter, Catherine “Kitty” Marshall.

Lovingly submitted,
