Ernest Theodore Smith was born November 15, 1955 to the late Irish Moorehead and George Smith in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Ernest (Boogie) as he was affectionately called attended school in Philadelphia and Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Ernest was diagnosed with throat cancer which was in remission in 2023 allowing him to rang the bell at his treatment center. Ernest was very happy to share his good news with everyone. Sadly, due to illness, Ernest was called home on June 20. 2024 after a strong fight.
Ernest enlisted in the Army at an early age for 2 years. Ernest also enjoyed being a boy scout as a child. Ernest had several jobs throughout the years one being a truck driver which he drove for a distribution company and held that position for over 5 years before relocating to Philly. Ernest traveled back and forth to Philly throughout the years to see his late father, children and grandchildren.
Ernest had several hobbies which includes, calling everyone “ole boy” or “ole girl”, dancing, drinking, watching western movies, and spending time with his family. Ernest played football for the Blackhawks in Philadelphia and the Fort Lauderdale Rattles. Ernest met Sharon and they became common law married after spending many years together. Ernest and Sharon remained together until 8/24/2012, when God called her home, which the loss of her devastated him.
Ernest was proceeded in death by his parents, Irish and George, grandparents Catherine and Samuel, brother Kevin, granddaughter Faith, common law wife Sharon and Children’s mother Darlene. Ernest leaves to cherish his memories his children Ernest (Joanna), Twana (Rashee), and Syreeta (Kevin). Grandchildren, Selena, Malik, Victoria, Shyheem, Khalia, Datrell, Zanai, Kennard, Maurice, Curtis, Curtrice, Denise, Artaya, Timothy, and Garisha, 13 great grandchildren, 2 stepsons, 3 Sisters, Patricia, Martha and Alfreda, 2 brothers Ricky and Demetrius, 6 nephews and 2 nieces and a host of other relatives and friends. Ernest will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
