General Elder Mae Lois Davis

Mae Lois Postell was born on March 8, 1939, in West Palm Beach Florida, to the parents of the late Elder Freddie Lee Postell (aka Reds) & Deaconess Jannie Mae Hallback. She was the third eldest child of twelve children: Alma, Thelma, Lilly Mae, Maryann, Betty Jean, Emily, Fred Lee Junior, Alfreddie Postell, James Robert, Jean, and one child born deceased (all proceeded her in death except her brother, James Robert). Her parents were both devoted, faithful members of the House of God Church, Keith Dominion. As a result of her parents’ prayers, strength, protection and guidance, the gifts in “Elder” was brought fought and she began her work in the ministry. The Postell family relocated to Philadelphia, PA, in the fall of 1954, when “Elder” was only 17 years old. She was then able to continue her education and graduate from the Philadelphia Public School System, earning her high school diploma. She met and married the Reverend Leroy Davis in 1964; he proceeded her in death in 2008. From this union twelve gifted and talented children were born: James, Deborah, Manuel, Darlene, Calvin (who proceeded her in death), Spencer, Regina, Antoinette, Sheila, Jonathan, Angela, and Beverly. As a result of the generational prayers prayed for the spiritual gifts to be manifested in her children, many are singers, musicians, educators, authors, bible scholars, preachers, teachers, entrepreneurs, and other business professionals. Although “Elder” was a homemaker, she held various jobs such as private duty home care aide, educator, writer, seamstress, cook, baker and took care of many children in her home. She was well-known for her homemade sweet potato and apple pies that she sold throughout various communities & businesses and within the Islamic & Jewish communities as well. “Elder” furthered her formal education by receiving a B.S. degree in Theology from Manna Bible Institute and completing several online courses with various theological schools for the indepthness of God’s Word. She was a graduate of the first class of the HOGC Bible College, receiving a certificate of completion. As a teenager “Elder” received the baptism of the Holy Ghost and became a life-long member of The House of God Church, Keith Dominion, until her death. She was a powerful woman of God possessing many gifts as a visionary, biblical & spiritual counselor, studious in the Word of God, deep in biblical research, and received great revelation from God. Her Christian service spanned over multiple administrations throughout the history of The House of God Church, Keith Dominion. She was called to the ministry under Bishop J. R. Lockely; she was taught under the late Chief Overseer, Bishop M. F. L. Keith, the decree and by-laws of the church; she was appointed as Elder by the late State Bishop P. J. Fletcher who served under the third administration of Chief Overseer, Bishop J. W. Jenkins; she pastored for over 25 years during the administrations of the late Chief Overseer, Bishop J. C. Elliott and the late Chief Overseer, Bishop R. W. Fletcher, from whom “Elder” received her appointment as General Elder. The church location she was appointed to pastor in Philadelphia on Columbia Avenue, was a historical site where Mother Tate & Dr. Keith completed their mission work for many years. “Elder” continued her work in the ministry as a great Bible teacher, great preacher, faithful evangelistic & missionary worker, church builder, church administrator, presiding elder working all levels of church organization – local, state, and national. She faithfully supported the church financially, spiritually and naturally and taught her children to do the same. “Elder” is well known for her musical talent – she was a powerful singer and pianist. Her gift of music was divinely given as she walked the streets in her home town, she heard music from heaven and would rush home to play the sounds on the piano that she heard; she never received formal musical training. This led to her performing before Senators and politicians, radio recordings with the True Light Gospel Singers, and many days pouring into her children the gift of music and song. Her legacy throughout her family resonates deeply with her grandchildren & greatgrandchildren across four generations. Being the matriarch of the family, she was a great example of how to be sold out for Christ as she stood for holiness and righteousness in love. She instilled in all her children and grandchildren the importance to know God for yourself through prayer, fasting and studying the Word of God, in order to make it day by day. She lived by the words of her favorite song, “May the Works I’ve Done, Speak for Me”. She leaves to mourn her children James Postell (deceased), Deborah Minor, Manuel Davis (wife, Delores), Darlene Davis, Calvin Davis (deceased), Rodney Spencer Davis (wife, Marlene), Regina Bradshaw (husband, Theodore), Antoinette Davis-Hayward (husband & godchild, Jamal), Dana Mills (endearing step-daughter), Sheila Terry, Jonathan Davis, Angela Cooper (husband, Norman), Beverly Davis, 44 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren, 4 great great-grandchildren, 1 brother - Bishop James Robert Postell, 1 uncle - R. T. Hallback (wife, Minnie), 4 godchildren - Julius Watkins, Ashley McCoy, Michelle Slocum, and Janice Smith, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and church family who loved her dearly.
