Gerladine Mathis Obituary

In Loving Memory of Geraldine Mathis

February 14, 1958 – June 15, 2025

With deep sorrow and abiding love, we announce the passing of our beloved sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, Geraldine Mathis, who departed this life on June 15, 2025, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Born on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1958, in Bulloch County, Georgia, Geraldine brought warmth, strength, and compassion into the lives of all who knew her. Though her roots were in Georgia, she made Philadelphia her home from 1975 onward, building a life grounded in faith, family, and service.

A proud graduate of William Penn High School, Class of 1977, Geraldine pursued higher education with determination, earning her Bachelor of Business Administration from Pierce College. Her professional journey was as diverse as it was dedicated—spanning roles in medical technology, banking, utilities, and clerical work. However, it was her long-standing service with the Veterans Administration, where she worked from 1987 until her retirement as Office Manager, that truly defined her career. Geraldine served with integrity and compassion, always striving to support those who had served their country.

Geraldine was a faithful and devoted member of The Original Apostolic Faith Church of the Lord Jesus Christ, where her presence was a source of strength and encouragement to many. Her unwavering faith and gentle spirit were evident in every aspect of her life.

She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Leroy and Lillie Mae Mathis, three brothers Leroy Mathis, Jr., Jimmy Mathis, Eddie Mathis, and her sister Helen Stokes. Though she has gone on to glory, Geraldine leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion.

She is mourned by her cherished siblings: sisters Mary (Robert) Tootle, Lillie (Stephen) Marshall, and Sally (Harvey) Moody; and brothers Harvey Dickerson, Edward Mathis, Jerry Mathis, Jerome (Veronica) Mathis, Leon Mathis, Anthony (Patricia) Mathis, Bobby (Kenya) Mathis, and Roy (Janice) Mathis. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will forever carry her memory in their hearts.

Geraldine’s life was a testament to quiet strength, enduring faith, and unconditional love. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.
