Glander Vanessa Fae Beatrice Liles

We celebrate the life of Glander Vanessa Fae Beatrice Liles, more affectionately known as “Bea”. Glander was born on June 29, 1950 in Johnston, N.C. to the late Elgie Mae and late Charles “Chico” Liles. They would later relocate to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where Glander was raised alongside her siblings.

In Philadelphia, Glander attended William Penn High School and later go on to pursue a career in Healthcare. Glander gave birth to her first born son Alexander Liles (Pep) in 1966. She would go on to have another son, Mark  Liles in 1969 and in 1975, she gave birth to her only daughter Elander Liles (Mookie).

Glander raised her 3 children in North Philadelphia while working as a Home Health Aide for Bayada Nurses. Glander would retire in 2000 due to unexpected health issues and reside with her daughter in Kensington. This time allowed Glander to provide daycare for her younger grandchildren.

Glander enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, watching daytime television (especially her stories), scratch off tickets & her numbers, cooking a good meal and most importantly, spending time with her family.  

Glander aka “Ms. Bea” was beloved in every neighborhood she lived in. She was Auntie to everyone who passed by Somerset St.  After growing more ill, Glander later had to move to a nursing facility in West Philadelphia. There, she spent her time reading, playing bingo, getting her hair done, and socializing with her new community. Glander was her happiest during visits from her family.

On May 26, 2024, Glander was called home to be with her Mother (Elgie Mae), Father (Charles) and baby brother (Andrew). She leaves behind to cherish in her memories: (Sisters) - Joyce Dobbins, Laura M. Small, Scarnetti & Renee Liles; (Brothers) – Charles Jr., Nathaniel, Mark & Marvin Liles; (Daughter) – Elander Liles (son-in-law Tyrone Sr.); (Son) – Alexander Liles (daughter-in-law Sharifa); (Son) - Mark Liles; (One and Only Grandson) – Tyrone Chase Jr.; (Granddaughters) – Shakia, Nashay and Ti’ani Liles, Shawanda Liles-Lane, Janeen Moore, and Kayla Lee; (Great Grandchildren) – Azzure, Kimani, Amari, Za’ki, Kylei, Tae’juan, Ki’yon, Karon and Logan; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends."
