Gloria Williams was born on February 8, 1935, to the late Richard Williams and Emma Moore in Portsmouth, VA. She was raised and received her education in the North Hampton County Virginia School System, while living with her Aunt Janie. God saw fit to give Gloria E. Moses her wings on Monday November 14, 2022. At an early age, Gloria was introduced to the Christian faith and as a young woman she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and personal savior. Gloria Williams met her childhood sweetheart, Freddie L. Moses in Virginia and the two wed on August 6, 1952. Later Gloria and Freddie relocated to Philadelphia, PA. and from this union, five children were born – Freddie Jr. “Poochie”, Russell “Ricky”, Yvonne, Jacob, and Nakia. Upon relocating to Philadelphia, Gloria Moses joined Christ Temple under the leadership of Pastor Carl Meade Sr. From there she joined Celestial Tabernacle, under the leadership of Overseer Arlene Mills-Speakes. Continuing to follow Christ, Gloria later joined St. John Rescue Church of God Inc., where she rededicated her life to Christ in 1994. Her final church home was Haven of Hope Inc., under the leadership of Overseer Valerie C. B. Leonard, where she served faithfully as “Church Mother”, until her passing. Mother Moses was without doubt, a woman of Faith! She acknowledged and confessed Jesus Christ as Lord. Her love, knowledge, and fear of the Lord prompted her to instill the Christian faith in her children. Gloria Moses spent quality time reading the word and praying without cease for her children, grands, family, friends, and neighbors. Her favorite scriptures were Psalms 37, Psalms 54, and Psalms 91. She would read and meditate on these scriptures daily. In her daily devotion, she would sing her favorite song “I Surrender All”. Persistent with kingdom ministry, and years of serving diligently on the mother’s board, it was no surprise when Gloria pursued a career as a Care Nurse at the Philadelphia Nursing Home and was also a Private Duty Home Care Nurse. Gloria possessed quite a few attributes. She was a dignified and private woman, yet a loving and caring person to all! Mother Moses was indeed a Titus 2 and Proverbs 31 kind of woman! In Gloria’s pastime, she enjoyed crossword puzzles, watching Judge Judy, and comedy shows, but above all else, church on Sunday’s! Her hobbies also consisted of shopping, she was such a lady, and dining at her favorite restaurants every Saturday with her granddaughters, Nitasha and Jaisha. Gloria was revered as an excellent cook! She could take what seemed like a little of nothing and turn it into a whole lot of something! Only a woman as tender as Gloria could cook meat so tender that it would be falling off the bones! Every Sunday after church, the church members would continue fellowshipping at her house just to enjoy the beans with smoked meat, oxtails, salmon cakes…and oh, we cannot forget about that precious lamb! Gloria was predeceased by her husband – Freddie, two sons – Freddie Jr. and Jacob, and one grandson – Jameel, three brothers – Horace, Roosevelt Sr., and Joe-Willie. Brother in-laws: Reggie and Alvin. Sister in-laws: Mary, Audrie, and Yvonne. She is survived by two sons – Russell Moses and Nakia Moses, one daughter – Yvonne Johnson. One Sister - Mable Foster. One Brother in-law: Henry Moses. Three Sister in-laws: Marie Brown, Willie Williams, and Mildred Smith. Daughter in-laws – Leslie and Jean. One spiritual daughter, Valerie C.B.Leonard.
