A treasured father, grandfather, uncle and friend, James Eddie Womack ascended into heaven Sunday, November 12, 2023. He was born December 19, 1945 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia to the late Jefferson Womack and Gertrude (Chambers) Womack.
James Ed, as he was affectionately called by all who loved him, grew up in southern Virginia and later moved to Philadelphia, PA as a young adult. He would soon meet and marry Denny Lea Miller and create his own family, one daughter and son. His working years included employment as a welder, from which he would retire and live a content & fulfilling retired lifestyle in West Philadelphia. He spent much of his latter years regularly spending time with family, sharing stories of life down south, cracking jokes with his siblings, nieces, and nephews, and never missing an episode of The Young & the Restless.
James Ed was known for his impeccable style and witty sense of humor. Outside of his stash of high-quality, crisp clean suits, he was always seen sporting a Kangol hat to match any and all his outfits. James had a deep love for football, with one team true to his heart, the Dallas Cowboys. He held regular Sunday calls with his children and grandchildren, all diehard Philadelphia Eagles fans, about how many tissues he was going to bring them after his team won their games. His family can attest that James Ed did not mince words. He let you know how he felt...especially his Cowboys. He never missed an opportunity to see his family. If he was invited or if he knew about it, he was there...with a Kangol.
In addition to his parents Jefferson & Gertrude, James is preceded in death by six sisters: Elizabeth Wallop, Katherine White, Lillie Anna Polk, Shirley Jean Dancey, Myrtle Marie Bell, & Estelle Louise Gilliam, and five brothers: George Gilbert Womack, William Al Womack, John Womack, Raymond Womack, & Maynard Womack.
Those left to cherish countless fond & funny memories include his daughter, Joan Pannell (husband, Herman Jr.) of Rustburg, VA, and son, James E Womack Jr of Gretna, VA; five grandchildren: Ashley Davis, Jamal Pannell, Tijwana Hubbard, Makel Dickerson, and Morgan Pannell; four great grandchildren: Hannah Davis, D'Zire Mabry, Carter Dickerson, and Jace Pannell; his baby sister, Carolyn Smith of Delaware; a dear friend and companion, Ms Ruth Howell, several nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and friends.
