Laura Rollerson was born January 27th, 1948, in Philadelphia to the late Thomas and Maggie Ramsey. Laura was the third born of nine children. Laura received Jesus Christ as her personal savior at an early age.
Laura was educated in the Philadelphia Public School system, attending Gratz High School and graduating from Manna Bible Institute, she was a teacher of the Bible, she taught Sunday school at Harambe Baptist Church, she was authorized by Rev. Dr Alyn E. Waller Pastor of Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church, of which she was a dedicated member, to teach a New Image class, she taught senior adult vacation bible school, started a book club, (The Fellowship Book Club), and she also taught Quick Start to the Bible Class Number 5 at Enon.
Laura was employed at Temple University where she worked different Campuses throughout the college for 20 plus years. She was a part of the Environmental Services Department and was the Shop Steward for Union Labor.
In the summer of 1979 Laura met Fletcher Odell Rollerson and through this courtship after three years they were married on October 10th, 1981. They spent their time together building a foundation for their children; Renee Ramsey-Valley, Fredrick Ramsey, Tracey Ramsey, Laura Ramsey, Joycelyn Cooper, and Darrell Johnson.
Psalms 57:2 says, “I cry out to God Most High, to God who fulfills his purpose for me”. This is key in understanding God’s purpose for your life. Laura lived her life in alignment with the will of God which she allowed to guide her, she recognized and utilized her talents all while given God the glory. Laura was a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, friend, a Diva-fashionista, and a caretaker of a Special needs person, Vincent Cheavers, for 20 years. Anyone who spent time with Laura could call her friend.
Laura enjoyed going to musicals and plays in New York. It’s difficult to sum up a person’s life in these few paragraphs but Laura lived an amazing life, and she shared it with so many people but, most importantly she was an Educator of the teaching of Jesus Christ. Laura fulfilled so many roles and looked so good doing it.
Laura and Joanna Ramsey created a world class traveling group called “Just Between Friends'' with Irene Harshaw being the recording secretary. Laura traveled to Israel, Paris, London, Bermuda, Alaska, and numerous other countries and states. Laura loved shopping with her friends and family, she would have you out shopping for the entire day, and she enjoyed spending time with her loved ones. Some people say everyone has their favorites, but not Laura, she had a special relationship with everyone, and that made her so honorable and respected. She took her grandkids to church on Sundays, attended their graduations, birthday parties, and she hosted many family gatherings.
Preceding Laura in death are her sisters, Yvonne Brown, Margo Josey; her brothers, Harry Ramsey, Arnold Ramsey, Alfred Ramsey, Anthony Ramsey, and Theodore Ramsey, and two special sister-friends, Sandra Pendelton and Delores Coles.
Laura leaves to cherish her memory: her husband Fletcher Rollerson; sister Barbara Wilson and her children; Renee Ramsey-Valley (Justin Valley), Fredrick Ramsey (Shelia Johnson) Tracey Ramsey, Laura Ramsey, Joycelyn Cooper, and Darrell Johnson; her grandchildren, Michael Cooper (Kamitra), Mark Griffith (Niasha Collins-Griffith), Shamea Wilson, Britany (Brandon), Dennis Dantzler, Chantel Taylor, Danielle Taylor, Shakir Joyner, Miyah Valley, Kahila Hardin and Shaleeya; her great grandchildren, Anthony James, Zyon, Trinity, A‘Nari and Meilani, and a host of nieces, nephews, family, friends, and church family.
