Marlene Martin Obituary

Marlene Martin was born on September 2nd, 1941, in Philadelphia PA to the late Robert Tucker Sr. and Etta Mae Neal. She was the fourth of seven children and preceded in her death were two brothers, Sultan Ahmed and Louis Neal as well as one sister, Sybella Neal. Marlene was raised in South Philadelphia and later moved to North Philadelphia. She received her education in the Philadelphia school system where she graduated from William Penn High School for Girls in 1960.

Although she retired from the Philadelphia Parking Authority with over 20 years of service as a supervisor, Marlene was also a long-term and dedicated employee of the federal government (Quartermasters) and the Philadelphia Inquirer.

In the late sixties, Marlene met and married the late William Stanley Martin and moved to New York in 1971. From that union, a son Eric Martin was born in 1973, whom she loved and cherished dearly. While living in New York, she enjoyed working for Saks Fifth Avenue and B Altman department stores.

Marlene was a faithful member of Devereux Memorial United Methodist Church as she sang on the choir and served on the Kitchen Committee. Marlene served effortlessly in the church and was always ready to provide a helping hand whenever needed.

Marlene had an outgoing and charismatic personality. She loved being around her friends, entertaining and enjoyed the finer things in life. She was also known to be a very classy dresser. Marlene enjoyed many hobbies such as making and teaching about jewelry, exercise classes and she loved to travel. She enjoyed traveling to places such as Tahiti, Ghana, West Africa, Amsterdam, Morocco among other places.

She leaves to cherish her son, Eric Martin Sr., her loving daughter-in-law, Nakia Martin; three sisters, Denise Davis, Mijiaza Shabazz and Jinaki Ahmed Muhammad; two sisters-in-laws, Harriet Ahmed and Linda Martin; two brothers-in-law, Abdul Malik Muhammad and Tyrone Martin; six grandchildren, Shakirah Martin, Eric Martin Jr., Rahquise Martin, Zaire Martin, Kai Martin and Gianna Martin; seven nephews, Sharifu(Ronald), Keith, Karl, Malik, Smair, Fard and Badi; seven nieces, Jalanda, Aziza, Ericka, Sauda, Jamillah, Khadija and Ayisha; one great-granddaughter, Paelyn Martin and a host of great-grand nieces and nephews along with numerous loved ones and friends.
