Officer Kinston Levon Sessoms

KInston Sessoms was born on July 9th, 1956 in Nashville, North Carolina to the late Mattie Ruth Sessoms and William Albert Davis. Levon attended The Philadelphia Public School System and went on to graduate from Simon Gratz High School. He furthered his education with the completion of Dental School. As a child, he was raised in North Philadelphia. As a child every Saturday, he loved to run down to the uptown theater straight to the front row. As a child, he attended Bethel Church of Christ Written in Heaven and became a deacon. In his adult years, he became a member of the 46th Street Baptist Church and settled at From The Heart Ministry of Philadelphia until his departure. Levon served in the Army where he was stationed in Germany for 8 years as a Staff Sergeant. He also became a lightweight boxer while being stationed in Germany. After his Honorable discharge, he went on to work at Chevron as a dispatcher for many years. Levon became a Correctional Officer and worked at The Detention Center and Curranhold Correctional Facility for the Philadelphia Prison System where he worked alongside John Wiley and Debra Blackmon whom he became long-time great friends. Levon changed careers where he attended the Philadelphia Police Academy class 320 and graduated on March 3rd, 1997. He went to work for The Philadelphia Police Department in the 24th District on August 18th, 1997 where he worked alongside Doris Cruz until he retired on January 11th, 2013. In Levons spare time he loved to cook, watch his old western, listen to his oldies, and entertain his cat Oreo who he loved. To know Levon was to love him and he was affectionately known as Lee/Levon to all who knew and loved him. Levon leaves a legacy of love to live on through his Wife Vesta Sessoms. Daughter Charlene (Rashad), Sons who preceded him in death Gary and Tyrone, and Siblings Sydney (Jennifer) and William. Honorable mention to some of his favorite people cousins Joanne, Charmine, and Katrina. Levon leaves to mourn 4 Grandchildren 9 Great Grands a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and church family.
