Pastor Reginald Hale Obituary

Reginald Dewayne Hale, affectionately known as Reggie, was born on January 9, 1971, to Zettie M. Hale and Robert Thomas. Reggie was a playful and joyful child, and his mother, affectionately called him “Old Man” due to his precocious nature. Reggie loved learning how things worked, so it was nothing for him to break apart a brand-new toy to see how it operated.

Reggie, the only child of Zettie M. Hale, a working mother, learned to stand on his own two feet. By the age of fourteen, he discovered his gift for cutting hair. He honed his skills by attending cosmetology school and earning his degree. Reggie soon became one of Philadelphia’s best and most beloved barbers.

Reggie’s entrepreneurial spirit was fueled by this gift. He went on to open his first barbershop on the corner of 7th and Diamond Street. From there, he thrived and eventually opened three more shops. Two of these shops, “Strictly Business,” were named by him and his wife while sitting at the kitchen table of her mother’s home. The third shop was Reggie’s Hair Design, which was located near Broad and Girard Avenue.

At the age of sixteen, Reggie, who was already establishing himself as a successful barber, met his wife, Loven. Reggie made sure to dress to impress. He wore his red track suit and white sneakers. His cologne of choice was Drakkar, which he sprayed generously. Reggie and Loven went on their first date, and they never looked back.

At twenty-two years old, Reggie would marry Loven on June 25, 1993. And this union of two would quickly become a family of four.  Charnice Yvonni Hale was born on April 8, 1994. And Isaiah Tyreece Hale followed two years later on June 25, 1996.

Reggie’s life took a transformative turn in the summer of 1993 when he had an indescribable experience with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. This life-changing event propelled him into the ministry of our Lord. In September 1993, Reggie delivered his first sermon at Calvary Evangelistical Church of God in Christ.

Minister Reginald Hale faithfully served under Pastor Wesley M. Joyner until the Lord called him to another assignment. Soon after, he joined Greater Canaan Church of God in Christ, where he would serve under Superintendent Vernon I. Prioleau Sr. There, he grew in God’s grace and was eventually installed as an Elder by Superintendent Vernon I. Prioleau. Elder Hale continued to faithfully serve for several years before God elevated him once more.

Elder Hale was elevated, by God’s grace, to the office of pastor in June 2003, and established Covenant of Glory Ministries where he would serve as pastor for twenty-three years. One day when asked by his wife what the name of the ministry meant, he replied, “God said to tell my people if they get in covenant with Me, they shall see My glory.”

Today Covenant of Glory Ministries remains a beacon of light and hope on the corner of 36th and Haverford.

Reggie leaves to cherish his life, legacy, and cherished memories, including his wife, Loven Hale; his two children, Charnice and Isaiah; his mother, Zettie M. Hale; his father, Robert Thomas (Mary); a brother, Robert Howell (Tama); three sisters, Daphne Oliver (John), Lavonchia Prioleau (Vernon), and Latrina Caldwell (David); a sister-cousin, Laniece Blackwell; and a brother-cousin, Ramont Hale; aunts, Willie Mae Fountain and Elizabeth Hale. His entire Covenant of Glory church family as well as a spiritual mother, Pastor Dr. Marva Thomas, and DATM church family in Jamaica, New York.

He also leaves to cherish his life with his uncles, a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Reggie once penned a song entitled “His Presence,” and truly, he was and continues to be in the presence of his Lord.
