Rev. Henry C. Lee

Reverend Henry Clayton Lee, affectionately known as “Reverend Lee,” was born on October 1st, 1933, in Orangeburg, South Carolina. He was one of eight children born to the late Eugena “Sugar Lee” Robinson and Ransom Lee Sr.

Later relocating to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Reverend Lee became a trailblazer in every sense. He made history as the first African American graduate in his class of Local 98 IBEW, paving the way for others to follow. A highly skilled and dedicated professional, he also earned distinction as a Master Electrician. His commitment to service extended to his country as he proudly enlisted in the United States Navy in 1957.

Above all, Reverend Lee was a devoted servant of God. He faithfully shepherded East Bethel Baptist Church as Pastor beginning in 1981 and later founded New Beginning Church in 1988. His ministry extended beyond the pulpit through his leadership with Emmanuel Home Gospel Missions and as a founding member and former chaplain of the renowned Victory Chorale Ensemble in the early 1960’s, where he was lovingly known as “Rev. Puddy.”

Gifted with a joyful and powerful voice, Reverend Lee often uplifted hearts through song, sharing beloved gospel selections such as “Victory,” “My Soul Has Been Anchored,” and “Take Your Burdens to the Lord,” bringing comfort and inspiration to all who heard him.

He held a deeply personal connection to scripture, especially his favorite passages, Psalms 23 and Galatians 2:20. He often emphasized the words “My” and “I,” teaching that each person’s relationship with God is intimate and personal—rooted in guidance, provision, and his unwavering presence.

Reverend Lee was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Amanda E. Lee, whom he affectionately called “Johnnie.” After 13 years of prayer and patience, God blessed their union with their precious miracle daughter, Karen Denise. He was also preceded in death by his siblings Ransom Jr., Patricia, Robert, and Perry.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving children: Steven, Rodney, Roderick, and Karen. He is also survived by his siblings Helen “Sister”, Queen Esther “Dink”, Rudolph (Sandy), Nathaniel (Alfonda); Carnell, and Rosalie Manning, his sister-in-law.

His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Lucilla (Patrick), Katrina, Nathan, Keary (Sharnaye), Kyle, Koty, and Daniel; and his great-grandchildren: Kristiana, Tyler, Taylor, Kahyan, Kyah’Amor, Larry III, Maya, and Kaleb.

Reverend Lee also leaves behind his cherished Godchildren, Stella Ann Meyer (“Mom Sue”) and Dr. Lori A. Sykes, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Reverend Henry Clayton Lee will be remembered for his unwavering faith, pioneering spirit, deep love for family, his excellence as a Master Electrician, his gift of song, and his powerful

connection to the Word of God. His life stands as a testament to perseverance, service, and devotion, and his legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.
